The Price of Forgiveness by M.L. Nystrom is the second Dutchman MC novel and a wonderful book. On learning this would be Railroad’s story, I couldn’t wait to dive in. Also, I needed to know the fate of the Dutchmen MC after the explosive ending in the previous book. Nystrom upped her ante in this installment by delivering an attention grabbing story designed to take readers on an emotional journey filled with romance and suspense.

The club has a new president, Railroad, who struggles with personal demons while managing the club’s affairs. The club is divided, with one side wanting to legitimate and the other wants to continue dabbling in criminal activities. In addition, the members are searching for Piglet, a former club member who betrayed the club. The search for Piglet led Railroad to his half sister, Gretchen. Now their first encounter may not have gotten off to a great start, but it left a lasting impression on both of them. Railroad doesn’t know how to handle his growing attraction to Gretchen. She brings back memories of a past he wishes to forget. He knows he should keep his distance, but how can he stay from the woman who brought light and peace to his life....

I had a wonderful time with this story, even more so than book one. First off, Railroad intrigued me from book one and I looked forward to learning more about him. There were so many layers to his character, but peeling them away proved to be an enlightening experience. A tough biker with a soft spot for the first woman to show him love. The woman who raised him and whom he called Grams. Throughout the story, we see hints about his past and the horrors he faced as a child. However, the details of his experience came to light late into the story.

Gretchen’s character brought diversity to the story. She is an editor who is deaf. Nystrom did an excellent job bringing to light the challenges and prejudices Gretchen faced because of her disability. The author portrayed her as a strong, sassy, and independent woman.

The romance was pure delight. However, it had its fair share of challenges with Railroad running hot and cold. He had moments when he acted like a jerk in his interactions with Gretchen, but then he would own up to his actions. The revelations of his past shined light on the reasons for his actions and insecurities. He believed he was not good enough for Gretchen. I enjoyed most of their interactions and the manner in which they related to each other.

The suspense arc added another layer to the story. It delivered twists I never saw coming. Within this aspect of the story, Nystrom introduces subject-matter which may not sit well with some readers.  A subject-matter which highlighted real life harrowing situations.

I found The Price of Forgiveness to be a delightful mix of chemistry, a love worth fighting for and enough suspense to keep you glued to the pages. This story will pull readers in and leave them smiling in the end. A wonderful addition to the series.
