McFarlane is one of my favorite contemporary romance authors, and part of why I like her work is I feel like her books have more depth and are a bit more serious than the average for the genre. Knowing that, I really shouldn’t have been surprised when the majority of this book wasn’t really about romance. I felt a little misread by the synopsis advertised to be honest, but the final product was still really, really good. I want to warn others though that if grief is not something you are ready to read about, don’t pick this up. But if that’s something you can handle, it is worth the read!
