The first thing I have to say is - get a box of tissues and keep it close by when you read this book, you'll need them! Chris Patchell has woven a masterful tale of mystery, suspense, romance, and heartache.
In the Dark tells a thrilling story of kidnapping, murder, love, loss, and even guilt. As difficult as it is to try and determine which of the characters was my favorite, I have to say that Marissa is my favorite. I think a lot of single mothers could relate to her character and the strength she has even if she doesn't realize how strong she really is.
I admit there were times where I had issues figuring out what was going on for a moment, but then I realized that a good portion of the book's chapters run at least partially simultaneously. Once I managed to wrap my brain around that, it was smooth sailing and the book was a pretty quick read. I think I finished the book in around 24 hours more or less. The book is very fast paced once you get into it and it keeps you thinking and wondering what will happen next.
It was relatively easy to figure out who the main bad guy was after a while, but to be honest, it doesn't detract from the story - it enhances it because it helps you to make sense of the book.
This book gets a full five stars from me. I can't wait to read more from Chris Patchell - and to be honest, with the way In the Dark ended, I wouldn't be surprised to see it become a series, and I truly hope it does.
