I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Her Fight is the fifth book in Emma Tallon’s Drew Family series and my first read for the author. Once again, I picked up a book which falls in the latter part of a series and, of course, the blurb influenced my decision. Now while Her Fight can work as a stand-alone, one would achieve a greater benefit by reading the series in sequence. I enjoyed my visit to the world Tallon created and look forward to visiting again.

I had a great time with Her Fight. Despite coming late into the series, I had no trouble following the story as Tallon provided sufficient background information. This made it easy to slip into the world she created and appreciate the characters. From the first page, I knew it would be a thrilling read, and it did not disappoint.

The Drew family is not your typical family. Headed by matriarch Lily Drew, they have ties to the criminal underworld. Feared by other crime syndicates, they were a force to be reckoned with. Gritty, dark, shocking, addictive and suspenseful Her Fight takes the reader on an unforgettable journey. The drama and nail biting suspense will have you flipping the pages. Rivalry within the family circle, treachery and revenge drove the story.

As you may guess, the characters featured here are not ones you would want in your inner circle. However, one cannot help but admire their strength, tenacity, and loyalty to each other. Lily Drew will do any lengths to protect her children and woe be to anyone who dares get in her way. Despite the many challenges faced ranging from personal to business, she displays fortitude. Her family members were an interesting lot. They added depth to the story with their varying personalities, ambitions, and desires.

As stated earlier, it can be read as a stand-alone. However, the plot develops throughout the course of the series. Therefore, reading the series in order would prove more beneficial. After my experience with Her Fight, I am eager to go back t to the beginning to see how it all started. Also, the ending hinted at bigger things brewing in the wings.

Overall, Her Fight delivered an entertaining read, which fans of stories with a focus on the criminal underworld would enjoy. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading
