The phenomenal word-of-mouth bestseller that is now a BAFTA Award-nominated movie

NOT EVERY GIFT IS A BLESSING

Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant Parks keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite. But they don't laugh.

Melanie is a very special girl.

Emotionally charged and gripping from beginning to end, THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS is the most powerful and affecting thriller you will read this year.

'A great read that takes hold of you and doesnt let go' - John Ajvide Lindqvist, author of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN

I picked this book up while visiting the Women and Children First bookstore in Andersonville (Chicago neighborhood) based on their recommendation card and I'm so glad I did! IIRC, this book is for "fans of the zombie apocalypse, Joss Whedon's show Firefly (and movie Serenity), and badass kid heroes" (or something along those lines) and I was not disappointed by that description. I had not heard of this book until browsing their SciFi section but it's apparently already been made into a movie that is being released in the UK (where the story is set) later this month! M.R. Carey is, it seems, better known as a comic book writer and that fast-paced tone carries over here. I really enjoyed this story, especially since it was a very unique take on the normal zombie apocalypse scenario. If anyone else has heard of this, let me know so we can discuss and I'm happy to lend my copy out!
