Tastes Better From Scratch Cookbook by Lauren Allen is a new collection of tutorials and appealing recipes for healthy and delicious food. Released 27th Sept 2022, it's 256 pages and is available in hardcover and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

This is a genuinely warm and inviting collection of beautifully prepared dishes which are appealing and tempting, made from unprocessed _real_ ingredients. The book has a high contrast colorful layout with a very modern feel. It's full of well done photographs and the dishes are styled attractively and serving suggestions are appealing and appropriate. A thing I really loved about this collection was the scannable QR codes throughout which link to videos showing extra techniques and how-tos. VERY handy. The other standout is the excellent photography. It's full of appetizing food, well prepared.

The introduction covers some kitchen basics, including tools and supplies, in a straightforward manner. It's refreshingly free of most non-essential gadgets and do-dads and the dishes don't need a lot of specialty gear or a degree in rocket science to prepare.

Recipes are arranged in chapters thematically: breakfast, muffins & bread, dinner, soup, salads & sides, and desserts. Ingredients are in bullet lists in a sidebar, followed by step by step preparation instructions. The ingredient measures are provided in imperial (American) measurements only. The items needed to prepare the dishes will be readily available at most well stocked grocery stores in North America.

Nutritional information is not included.

Four and a half stars. This is a very useful cookbook. It would be an excellent selection for public library acquisition, gift giving, and home library use. Although it has a contemporary feel and layout, there are an abundance of traditional staples, breads, and meals, to keep cooks going for ages.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
