I did not know what to expect when I started reading Combative, but I definitely enjoyed the entire experience. This book was gritty and mysterious, with a lot of heartfelt moments and humor to break up the seriousness. Let me tell you, things got serious. The flashbacks really made me verklempt! I must thank Jay McLean for the two chapters of Redemptive that she tacked on the end. I almost had a heart attack at the end of Combative, because I thought I figured something out, and then the book ended, but no worries, my suspicion was confirmed. Therefore, I can wait a little bit for the next one, while I let my imagination run wild wondering what will happen. Another thing I really enjoyed was the story telling. The majority of the story is told from Kyler's point of view and then you would get like a shot of Madison's thoughts. I loved getting the two perspectives on each situation. Kyle -- another great McLean man. He's wounded, but you know he's still battling to be a good man, to be a good brother, to be a good son and to be a good savior. There was moments he made me swoon. Final note: This girl is eager to read more about Madison, Kyler and everyone else.
