I received this book for free from Audiobookworm Promotions in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I have been doing great with audiobooks from my library for Pride month but I'm super excited to be apart of another audio review tour. I just had to sign up for Ember Burning so excuse this short straight break that I think you'll really like!

Review of Ember Burning:

I received these audiobooks as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Jennifer Alsever. The gifting of these audiobooks did not affect my opinion of them.

TW: Rape, Drug Abuse, Kidnapping,

Ember is a down to Earth, realistic, stubborn, forgetful, struggling teen. A former overachiever drifting after life goes sideways. She isn't the overpowered chosen one that fails upwards. There's plenty to love and frustrate you about Ember. I wanted to hug her and shake her.

Trey is a punk rocker and I LOVE it. Lily is a good, complex depiction and counterpart to Ember.

  • Realistic grief and slide into drug abuse

  • Understandable denial and wishful thinking

  • The emo love/hate dude has an actual reason (and gets better)

  • Twists I did NOT see coming at all

  • Cliffhanger

  • I honestly have no idea what will happen next. And that really means something after all the paranormal and dystopian YA trilogies...

I can't get into details because I'm worried I'll spoil it.

Moira Todd did an amazing job narrating. Our protagonist Ember is a singer songwriter with passages of her songs which Todd sings beautifully. It's always the little editions, the nonverbal vocal cues that really make an audiobook leap off the page for me.

An original paranormal mystery with a realistic teen protag that'll comes to life with Todd's narration and will keep you hooked even if you're fatigued of tropes in the recent genre publishing.
