This was a very interesting story.  The relationship between Eric and EmLynn was fun to watch.  Jace was the perfect mean boy.  Eric's insecurity was touching.  And there was a fun side-story about EmLynn's friend Clara.

There were a number of conflicts in the story.  Eric's past (that he refused to talk about), the mean kids at school, the foster parent situation, EmLynn's relationship with her parents, etc.  They were all developed well, and though I did realize what was going on with the situation with the house (don't want to give anything away!), it was handled well and written in an interesting way.

I did not like the way that Eric snuck into EmLynn's room at night, and though the story was clean, there was way too much touching and intimacy going on.  I would not want my middle school or high school thinking those things are acceptable or normal by any stretch of the imagination.
