Onyx by Jennifer L Armentrout

Onyx (Lux, #2)

by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks...Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon's determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I've sworn him off, even though he's running more hot than cold these days. But we've got bigger problems. Something worse than the Arum has come to town...The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I'm a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who's got a secret of his own. He knows what's happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard. But then everything changes...I've seen someone who shouldn't be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he's never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them--from me? No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies...

Initial Thoughts
So after I finished Obsidian, I ran to the bookstore and bought the second book the next day. I also finished it that same day. SO I guess you can say that this series is addicting. Even though I didn’t give it five stars, i still had to have more.

My New Best Friend
Still Dee. I was sad that we didn’t get to see her as much in this book. I really love her. I also liked Adam too even though we didn’t see a lot of him either. Both were really cool characters that stood up for what was right instead of following everyone else.

My Crush
Still Daemon. And there was A LOT of him in this book. The sexual tension in this book compared to the last was incredible. His relationship with Katy is getting better but they still hate each other at the same time. I love it. Katy however, is getting on my nerves. She’s turning into one of those girls that doesn’t think about anything and rushes off to go do something stupid. If she gets worse in the next book I might have to stop reading.

Writing Style
The writing was better than the first book I think. And I really enjoyed the pace that it was going at. It was just slow enough for you to enjoy every little piece. I hated that they made fun of cliches in the book but then the author would turn around and use the exact same one. That was kind of lame. And the similarities to Twilight were still there. I HATE that, Twilight was not a good book for me so when the author basically uses the EXACT SAME LINES, well that makes me a little mad.

Closing Thoughts
I really enjoyed this book even with all the little things I hated. Why can’t there just be a perfect book out there with nothing wrong with it!? I wish Twilight had never existed so that this book was better. The starting of this one was a little slow. There were a lot of Daemon/Katy moments and not enough action. It did pick up a lot in the end though. The ending was expected but it was really good all the same. The setup for the third book was really well done. I did enjoy this book though, even though it was frustrating. It’s a love/hate relationship.

Bonus
Still Daemon. Seriously. Read this book just for him. Also the main character is a book nerd AND a book blogger! How cool is that! I feel like they make fun of it thought.

Quote
“I always liked you. From the moment you first flipped me off.”
