Second Chance Boyfriend by Monica Murphy

Second Chance Boyfriend (One Week Girlfriend, #2)

by Monica Murphy

From breakout author Monica Murphy comes the exhilarating conclusion to Drew and Fable’s story—the star-crossed young romance that began in One Week Girlfriend.

Lost. Everything in my life can be summed up by that one sickening word. My football coach blames me for our season-ending losses. So does the rest of the team. I wasted two whole months drowning in my own despair, like a complete loser. And I lost my girlfriend—Fable Maguire, the only girl who ever mattered—because I was afraid that being with me would only hurt her.

But now I realize that I’m the one who’s truly lost without her. And even though she acts like she’s moved on and everything’s fine, I know she still thinks about me just as much as I think about her. I know her too well. She’s so damn vulnerable, all I want to do is be there to help her . . . to hold her . . . to love her.

I just need her to give me one more chance. We may be lost without each other, but together, we’re destined to find a love that lasts forever.

When I read Monica Murphy’s novel One Week Girlfriend I was blown away – I loved it so much! It was a wonderful enjoyable novel and I adored the relationship between Fable and Drew even if it was meant to be fake. I felt they were destined to meet, and despite all their issues I really did root for the pair of them because they definitely deserved a chance at happiness. So it was fair to say that as soon as I’d finished the book I would go and download the second one Second Chance Girlfriend.

Second Chance Girlfriend picks up a little way after One Week Girlfriend, we find out from Fable that Drew hasn’t been in touch, and we find out from Drew that he’s trying to sort his life out, and has even gone to see a therapist. When Fable gets a new job at The District, the last thing she expects is for Drew to show his face but she’s not overly surprised. The two fall back into a relationship, but are they both ready to take on everything the other person needs from them?

If I’m going to be totally honest, I felt like Second Chance Boyfriend was filler. I didn’t feel there was really a plot to the novel other than Drew and Fable taking their clothes off a lot. I would personally have just added this novel to the first and used it that way because there was no real plot, except for Fable and Drews relationship. I enjoyed the novel for what it was, but I just wanted more from it I suppose. There was a bit near the end where Adele returned but anything that ever features Adele is always quite farfetched.

Overall I liked the novel, I think it would have worked better as an add on to the first book, or a novella, but it wraps up Fable and Drew’s story and I liked that because the first novel did not do that. I still love the characters, flawed and all. They’re really easy to love because they are so flawed and you do just want to see them happy so I was quite glad of the ending. I’m looking forward to see what the third book offers, and I love that Monica plans to give Owen his own story at some point – I’d totally be up for reading that, as even at 14, Owen is fascinating.
