Beard With Me by Penny Reid

Beard With Me (Winston Brothers, #6)

by Penny Reid

‘Beard With Me’ is the origin story of Billy Winston and Scarlet St. Claire (aka Claire McClure) and is just the beginning of their epic love story.

No one is better at surviving than Scarlet St. Claire and making the best out of circumstances beyond her control is Scarlet’s specialty. In an apocalyptic situation, she’d be the last person on earth, hermitting like a pro, singing along to her CD Walkman, and dancing like no one is watching.

Scarlet is clever, Scarlet is careful, and Scarlet is smart . . . except when it comes to Billy Winston.

No one is better at fighting than Billy Winston and raging against his circumstances—because nothing is beyond his control—is Billy’s specialty.

In an apocalyptic situation, he’d be the first person on earth to lead others to safety, overcome catastrophe, or die trying.

Billy is fearless, Billy is disciplined, and Billy is honorable . . . except when it comes to Scarlet St. Claire.

Dang it, Penny Reid!

I had so many feelings reading this book. I'll admit to some slight frustration while reading, mainly due to the internal monologues. But looking back on it, they help to string together things that happened in previous books. Beard with Me, certainly filled in some pieces of the puzzle laid out in previous books. It also created more questions for me and it's been years since I've read the previous books. So, I had to spend some time trying to remember things.

This is the most serious and dramatic of the books so far. Which makes sense, considering the subject matter. While it broke my heart many times, the sweetness of Billy and Scarlet, certainly helped to soften the blows at times. Sort of.

I loved meeting the young Winstons and getting to spend time with Bethany Winston as well.

This is an intense read and I appreciated how Reid used Cletus to give us a bit of comic relief here and there.

All I know is this... I want the next book. ASAP. I cannot wait to read their HEA.
