On February 1, 1959 nine students died under very mysterious circumstances as they attempted to hike to Otorten Mountain, Russia.  Donnie Eichar believes that on February 1, 1959 a Kármán vortex street created an infra-sound that was so horrific it drove the disoriented hikers from their tent out into the harsh night.

Eichar alternates the story between telling his, the hikers and the rescue/investigation stories. The book is well written and I feel is very even-handed it's telling. Russia was even a stranger place in 1959 than it is today but I think the government totally without explanation of what happen on the night of February 1, 1959.

Eichar provides a graphic of how the Kármán vortex street would impact the hikers tent.  When you think about the speed created by this occurrence, you totally begin to understand how this could have driven the 9 hikers out into the night frightened and disoriented.

As Eichar quoted Sherlock Holmes :

'...when you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.'

Eichar found the truth.
