Run To You by Rachel Gibson

Run To You (Military Men, #1)

by Rachel Gibson

The scorching hot love story of two troubled hearts from New York Times bestselling author Rachel Gibson, author of RESCUE ME and NOTHING BUT TROUBLE.

Ex-marine Beau Junger likes fast cars and loud music. His body is covered in tattoos and makes girls go weak at the knees. But Beau’s not interested in love this year: No women. No sex. No complications. His only worry is saving Stella Leon.

Stella doesn’t need saving. She’s always been independent, confident, strong. At least on the outside. And she definitely doesn’t need a man. After all, she’s never known one she could depend on.

But when Beau turns up and spirits her across state to meet her estranged sister, everything changes. They’ve both got their demons to face, but as the southern heat brings tensions sizzling to the surface, something sparks between them. This tough guy has finally met his match – and they’re both about to fall harder than a ton of red-hot bricks...

3.5 Gibson’s characters are fleshed out and easily likable. Stella is tough, sassy, and smart. I instantly liked this twenty-eight year old virgin. I know! Don’t roll your eyes, I was nervous too but she is only a virgin in the biblical sense and has plenty of experience with the other bases! Her life hasn’t been easy, but she holds her head high and rolls with the punches. Beau is approaching forty, and has been reevaluating his life style. He wasn’t thrilled about the events that unfolded, mostly because he found Stella attractive and she kept making him want to break his own rules. This made him moody but deliciously handsome as Stella unintentionally pushed all of his buttons. It was fun watching their relationship develop. I wouldn’t call this insta-love as the relationship began from annoyance and bickering which I quite enjoyed. Beau’s interaction with his twin brother was funny, and gave us a glimpse into their childhood and antics. There were some villains who helped further the plot and characters from the previous book, but I did not feel lost.

While the plot for Run to You was predictable the characters made the tale come to life providing me a wonderful afternoon escape. I enjoyed the banter; the silly nicknames and watching Beau fight with his conscience. As Beau and Stella traveled across country to Texas, we got to know them, even making a stop at Beau’s family home. The point of view switches back and forth making us privy to their thoughts. This is something I am coming to love in my romance novels. It helped me understand the characters and form attachments. There is a suspenseful thread woven into this contemporary romance that kept things interesting. The tale wraps up nicely and I am curious about the other characters and their stories.

If you are looking for a fast, fun, smexy read then Run to You will provide the perfect afternoon escape. I look forward to reading more of Rachel Gibson’s contemporary romances.
