I've enjoyed all the books in Able's Sanctuary Series, and this was no exception. However it had been a while since I read the previous book, and this one was a different POV from the other books, so it took a minute to reimmerse myself into the world again. But once I did I was a goner. Note - I would strongly encourage anyone considering this book to read the previous books in order first. It is not one that could be easily understood without that background knowledge.

This story - as the title says - is about Gabriel and his mate. Jonathan and River set the new standard for bonding with one's wolf and finding mates. And Gabriel is determined to follow in their footsteps. But his time is running out, and he makes a backup plan. Of course things don't always go the way they seem, or the way you think they should, or the way they plan for.

But you have to make things work to survive, especially in the world Abel creates for her shifters. They are like no other shifters I have ever read about anywhere, ever. The way she created them is unique to her world. And I kinda don't want to tell you so you have to go read it for yourself. She also brings politics into it - but again not like other shifter books. You just have to read to see.

I wasn't sure I was going to like Gabriel's book. I had fallen so in love with River and Jonathan, and Gabe was basically a kid at the beginning of their story, that I thought it would be weird to read about. I am glad I gave it a shot though, because I fell madly in love with Gabe and his mate (notice I don't use her name, I don't want to ruin anything for anyone!) and their struggles to not only be happy, but just to BE.

If you are looking for a unique shifter NA romance, pick up book one in this series, River's Recruit.
