The Sleeping Prince doesn't have that same wow factor that The Sin Eater's Daughter has. We're out of the incestuous, secretive castle where all kinds of crazy occured. Most of this story takes place in the villages where people are being forced from their homes and forced to fight against something they have no hope of winning against. Errin and her mother have nowhere to go but it's not like Errin's mother can join any of the caravans in her condition. But Errin knows someone who might be able to help, and she has information that he needs. Silas has secrets of his own though and his help might put Errin in even more danger.
I was not as into the romance portion of The Sleeping Prince between Errin and Silas as I was with Twylla and Lief. He's this mysterious stranger that she meets and happens to be able to help her and her mother survive. She knows nothing about him, not even what he looks like. And he just happened to arrive in her village at the same time that the Sleeping Prince awoke. Of course, there has to be some reason for them to not be able to be together, and then maybe things suddenly change later on because of reasons. I just don't know about them. I'm still rooting for Twylla and Lief though in spite of my better judgement. I need more of them in the next book!
The Sleeping Prince was a fast paced and gripping sequel. It's nowhere near as good as the first book, but it's still a good read. After my initial disappointment about this one not being about Twylla, I quite liked how it gave us a different perspective. There's a lot going on in this world and it's not just happening to Twylla's small circle. It's everywhere. I do hope we get back to her POV in the following book though.
