The Stars Never Rise by Rachel Vincent

The Stars Never Rise (Stars Never Rise Duology, #1)

by Rachel Vincent

Sixteen-year-old Nina Kane should be worrying about her immortal soul, but she's too busy trying to actually survive. Her town's population has been decimated by soul-consuming demons, and souls are in short supply. Watching over her younger sister, Mellie, and scraping together food and money are all that matters. The two of them are a family. They gave up on their deadbeat mom a long time ago. When Nina discovers that Mellie is keeping a secret that threatens their very existence, she'll do anything to protect her. Because in New Temperance, sins are prosecuted as crimes by the brutal Church and its army of black-robed exorcists. And Mellie's sin has put her in serious trouble.

I've been planning on reading this one for a very long time, bought both books... and of course never bothered to pick it up. Until now that is.

And like always.. Such a shame I did not pick this one up sooner !! It was such a thrilling ride !! I read some positive reviews, but I still kept my hopes low (just in case). But it was surprisingly awesome !!

Yes it has it flaws, and was quite predictable.. but also really entertaining. Filled with action and a very interesting world building, this was really likable for a dystopian ! (I have not really been into dystopians much lately).
The MC also had her flaws, but they made her more likable instead of some awesome kick-ass warrior right away. I really love her loyalty to her sister.

Curious how this will continue (and end) in the next part. Planning on reading it soon !!
