Gray Fowler, star NFL tight end, is being pursued by a stalker, so his team hires a protection agency to keep Gray under the watch of a bodyguard at all times. When Gray meets Dru Porter, an agent assigned to him, he's indignant. How can an attractive young female half his size possibly protect him?

But Dru's a former Marine, an expert markswoman, and a black belt. She's also ferociously determined to uncover the identity of Gray's stalker. And she's just as determined to avoid any kind of romantic attachment between herself and the rugged football player with the mysterious past. But the closer they get to finding the stalker, the closer they grow to each other. As the danger rises, can Dru and Gray entrust their hearts--and their lives--to one another?

I received this book in exchange for a review.

This was a promising book. The plot was wholesome, the characters seemingly relatable. However, the more Gray's background unfolded, the less I liked Dru. If love is patient (1 Corinthians 13:4-7), why is Dru in such a rush? Why is she, a self-proclaiming better-than-Gray Christian because she isn't living like she's unforgiven, rushing the very thing the Bible states is patient?

I liked the style and characters' depth, and I admired how, though this is the first-ever time I've heard of this series and novel I've read from it, Her One & Only works well as a standalone novel. I disliked the turn it took, what with Dru's frustrating prying in all of 10 weeks of knowing Gray, because getting to know someone and continuing to know them is not a right; it's a privilege. Gray did some wrong things, but in the end, she left a sour taste in my mouth.
