Jackson Worthington is a soldier back in his hometown after an injury is keeping him from entering into active duty again. He is trying to figure out what to do next and trying to completely ignore his mother and stepfather. He is also trying to forget/ignore his stepsister Lily who was the one person who showed him kindness, compassion and love.

Lily Hastings has had a crush on Jackson since their parents married and one night she acted on it and it brought nothing but trouble including Jackson leaving. Her feelings for him haven't went away and when he shows up again, she isn't sure what to do about it. Lily thinks Jackson feels nothing for her and she has to focus on her future which has been all mapped out for her by her father.

I generally love Jen McLaughlin but this wasn't her best writing. There has been quite a few taboo stepbrother romances lately and this wasn't one of the best ones I've read. The storyline wasn't new and nothing overly exciting. The plot felt tired and done. I also really felt very little for these two characters. That said, it doesn't turn me off to stepbrother romances...I just might take a break for awhile.
