I received this book for free from Obsidian in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I loved how many side mysteries were in this book. It never felt like there was too much going on, and it wasn't confusing following all the various mysteries. I guessed the answers to who the Elder was, as well as the mystery around the dove by about half-way through the book or so. But I liked getting to see how the plots would unfold.
I had no idea who the killer was, and no idea who the petnapper was. But it made total sense once those mysteries were revealed. I liked the way Craft worked in the book, and really liked the thought of familiars being witches reborn into an animal body.
There was a very minor thread of romance in the book, but it was fairly backseat to all the mysteries. The characters were well-developed, and I liked reading about all of them as well as their town. I will definitely be going back and reading the earlier books in the series.
If you like paranormal cozies, you need to give this one a try.
