This first book in the Nikki Glass series blew me away with its intense characters and mythology.

Nikki Glass is a great female character, she's pragmatic and resourceful, intelligent and learns from her mistakes. Qualities (unfortunately) you don't see in every strong female character. She also has her limits - she knows what she can handle and what she can't, and she's okay with that.

This book also weaves multiple mythologies into one story. Characters are descendants of Norse, Greek, Egyptian and many other pantheons. Black manages to bend these mythologies in a believable fashion that still manage to stay true to the original story.

Lots of action, twists, and turns in this story. For fans of mythology and urban fantasy, Dark Descendant is a must read.
