I really wanted to like this book, and while it wasn't terrible, it wasn't one that I really enjoyed, either.

I've been a fan of S. A. Fenech's coloring books for a couple of years and didn't even realize she'd written books, so I was excited to pick this one up. The premise seemed interesting and unique, but it ended up being a bit far-fetched, even with suspending belief to accept the superpowers.

Livvy, a teenager, leaves with a group of strangers after an earthquake, without telling her parents, just because they tell her she's an Empath like them. Slight spoilers ahead - I understand why (as she was being influenced by Jake's empathic abilities), but it still seemed hard to believe.

It was enjoyable at first, but the plot started to drag about halfway through. The plot twist was obvious, which wasn't exactly a problem in itself, but the way it played out was disappointing, and the relationship seemed forced at the end. I didn't care enough about the characters to bother picking up the rest of the series.

As some people love a book that others dislike, I'm not going to say this isn't worth your time. If you're a fan of YA novels featuring teens with unusual superpowers, this might be for you.
