I don't know what happened here, but there isn't even a plot. The book is mostly people standing around talking. We go back and forth between scenes with Dude #1 and scenes with Dude #2. There's a lot of telling-not-showing. A LOT of that. And worst of all, there's absolutely no explanation for why the main character seems to be so Super Special that she's breaking the rules of the Forgotten. While I suspect there's supposed to more books in the series, absolutely nothing seemed like foreshadowing or foundation laid down to explain what is going on. The whole thing was one vague blob of characters talking about what was happening without really saying anything substantial.
The first book would have been awesome as a stand-alone book. The ending would have been pretty daring and bittersweet for the genre. It certainly didn't need this sequel.
