Chosen introduces us to a kick-ass heroine named Shanti with unbelievable mind-bending and combat powers. She is escaping some very bad people who want to use and abuse her as well as impregnate her to produce more with similar skills. While she is on the run she thinks she's come to an end when she runs out of food and water. A motley band of young men find her dying in the wasteland and take her home with them.

Kayan the Captain of the area turns out to have similar powers to Shanti but his powers have never been harnessed. Kayan is a protector and wants to heal Shanti and for her to share her secrets with him which she struggles with. When you have lost all of your loved ones and been by yourself for over a year, you find it hard to trust. Kayan won't take no for an answer.

Shanti had me laughing out loud on numerous occasions, especially when they were forcing her to put clothes on which she found restricted her movements and made her feel trapped. Most of the men were embarrassed by her nudity. I enjoyed that her fighting abilities were able to change the narrow-minded views of the men...she kicked their butts.

This story has action, adventure and sexual tension that zings off the pages. Unfortunately that's all it stays at - sexual tension, no sexual action. Big bummer. Luckily I was fully gripped by the story so I was able to get past it.

This story had a paranormal historical feel. There was mind-control fighting, but with swords and knives as well. The women dressed in corsets and full skirts. The men were old-fashioned and wouldn't allow their women to fight and kept them protected. Shanti seemed like she stepped out from another time. She didn't like the restrictive clothes and she loved to swear and niggle the men.

Overall I really enjoyed this story and will definitely keep going in this series. The beginning was a little slow and the lack of sex reduced this to a 4 star read.

Thank you K.F. Breene for supplying me with a copy of Chosen for reading and reviewing in preparation for the release of Hunted in the near future.
