George

by Alex Gino

This was a really cute story. I think it's a must read for any middle grade child. George is a young boy who truly believes that he was meant to be a girl. This is his story about how he finally lets his true self shine. I thought the author described George's situation perfectly. The concerned mom felt really well done and the surprisingly supportive brother. I also thought that George's best friend was a really great character and I'm glad she was a part of the story. The plot revolves around George feeling like he was meant to play Charlotte (from Charlotte's Web) in the school play. Naturally, he's a boy so the teachers put a stop to that idea. That doesn't stop George though and I really liked how that story played out.

My only complaints were that the plot didn't have a whole lot going on and it felt like it was cut too short. Besides that it was a really inspiring read and made me hopefully.
