I was slightly apprehensive going into this book since it was a historical romance. I was pleasantly surprised though when I actually really enjoyed it.

Even though this was a quick read, it did take my awhile to read because of the fact that I never really connected to any of the characters until the last 50 pages of the book.

We follow Gracie, and sometimes Penny, and Charlie from 1938 till 1942. While there is some switching between POV of the characters there wasn't enough to get really attached to any of them besides Gracie. I would occasionally feel bad for Charlie because of all of the things he was dealing with, but a lot of the time I was just annoyed with him. I never really connected with Penny but I think that might be because of the fact that we never really got to know her much.

I really liked how Gracie went about helping with the war effort though and how she wouldn't just let her parents make those choices for her. The last couple of pages of the book though really through me for a loop/ It didn't really seem to go with everything else that she had been doing up until that point and I was hoping she would have stayed on with the WAAF until after the war since they were always talking about their not being enough people.

The only real disappointment I had with this book was the fact that it glazed over a lot of topics or just briefly mentioned them but never really went into them.
