I must admit that I’ve struggled with reading in the past week or two. It’s a bit of a combination between a book hangover from consuming the entire San Ricardo series and just being tired and generally distracted. It’s left me unable to really enjoy the books I’ve been picking up. Well, Eva Winners has snapped me right out of that slump.

I can’t make up my mind how I feel about Isabella and whether she’s incredibly strong but forgiving, or simply a pushover when it comes to Vasili. If I were in her position there would be no forgiveness for how he treated her in the prologue and certainly no second chance, no matter how badly my heart or body wanted to provide it. My mind would rule those two bitches and that would be that.

When Isabella and Vasili next meet, it’s clear she has grown a backbone in the five years since their encounter but, deep down, she’s still the same girl he cruelly broke and discarded that Halloween night. She has the same fears and protests in her mind, but also the neverending longing for him that hasn’t disappeared. Despite having been with her current boyfriend for two years, she still hasn’t gotten over Vasili. In the first few chapters, I was unable to decide whether it was him or his treatment of her that she was still hanging on to.

The book talks about at least six different families and cartels, the main two being Vasili’s Nikolaev family and the Santos Cartel, both of which Isabella has links to. It took a lot to get my head around all these different players and their various connections, with not all of it seeming entirely necessary to the story being told. That said, I can understand the mentions as these families will feature more heavily in the other Belles and Mobsters books.

If you’re the type who loves their jealous and possessive alphas, then Vasili is definitely your man. Nearly all of the books I’ve read lately feature possessive or territorial alpha males but Vasili takes those traits to the extreme – so much so it’s almost scary. And damned hot.

Super-steamy scenes
