On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn

On the Way to the Wedding (Bridgertons, #8)

by Julia Quinn

A funny thing happened...

Unlike most men of his acquaintance, Gregory Bridgerton believes in true love. And he is convinced that when he finds the woman of his dreams, he will know in an instant that she is the one. And that is exactly what happened. Except...

She wasn’t the one. In fact, the ravishing Miss Hermione Watson is in love with another. But her best friend, the ever-practical Lady Lucinda Abernathy, wants to save Hermione from a disastrous alliance, so she offers to help Gregory win her over. But in the process, Lucy falls in love. With Gregory! Except...

Lucy is engaged. And her uncle is not inclined to let her back out of the betrothal, even once Gregory comes to his senses and realizes that it is Lucy, with her sharp wit and sunny smile, who makes his heart sing. And now, on the way to the wedding, Gregory must risk everything to ensure that when it comes time to kiss the bride, he is the only man standing at the altar...

I'm conflicted about On the Way to the Wedding. Because that synopsis---nothing about it says "Amanda will like this book!" And it's true: there did come a point where I was ready to throw the book in disgust, shouting, "HOW COULD YOU?"

But it's Julia Quinn. And one scene---with Gregory, Hyacinth, and their mother---had me shaking with silent laughter, then giggling out loud, then snorting because it is absolutely and completely glorious and the exact reason why I love this series so much.

Of course, the "HOW COULD YOU?" moment came a lot later than expected, which is part of why I'm conflicted. I thought it'd be okay, and then BAM, it wasn't. And I really did want to toss the book aside. But I didn't. And I'm glad.

Because THE BRIDGERTONS! This will likely never be my favorite Bridgerton book. (Sorry, Gregory and Lucy.) But I adore this series---and family---and On the Way to the Wedding gave me what I adore.

After I get my hands on the second epilogues, there's going to be a Bridgertons' reread. Mark my words.
