Drink Deep by Chloe Neill

Drink Deep (Chicagoland Vampires, #5)

by Chloe Neill

"A strong-minded, sharp-witted heroine who will appeal to fans of Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series and Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake." (Library Journal)

Clouds are brewing over Cadogan House, and Merit the vampire can't tell if this is the darkness before the dawn, or the calm before the storm. With the city itself in turmoil over paranormals and the state threatening to pass a paranormal registration act, times have never been more precarious for the vampires. If only they could lay low for a bit...

Then magic rears its ugly head when Lake Michigan turns black. The mayor insists it's nothing to worry about, but Merit knows a panic is coming. She'll have to turn to friends old and new to find out who's behind this, and stop them before it's too late for both the vampires and humans.

I was very disappointed that Ethan died in [b:Hard Bitten|9581001|Hard Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires, #4)|Chloe Neill|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1372850762s/9581001.jpg|12773071]. As frustrated as I was about that, I have read other books where characters that I loved were killed off, but you know what, those characters were able to move on and so was I. The author had a plan and the character grew and I loved them all the more for what they were going through. In this book, I feel that Ms. Neill turned her back on her characters by bringing Ethan back. I don't know, maybe there is more to it and she has a plan, but it doesn't seem that way to me at this point. I will read the next book to see where this leads, but I'm not optimistic at this point.
