This is probably my second favorite Spider-Gwen issue in this run. Okay, I should add a ‘so far’ here, since the series isn’t all that far along, relatively speaking.
This issue did a brilliant job of reminding us all of the problems Gwen is up against. She’s got a lot of the classic Peter Parker issues; the city not accepting her, her trying to find a path in life as a superhero, that sort of thing. But she’s also been outted to her world, and more than that, she’s the only one like her here. That changes things. A lot.
There was so much I loved about this issue, the above conflict of course. But also the interpersonal moments in this issue, and yes I am being intentionally vague for sake of spoilers. But I was pretty happy to see where this might hopefully be leading.
The best part of all is that while Gwen definitely took a hit or two this issue, she also had a pretty big win. I think she could learn a lot from the success here, and honestly? I think she’s a lot closer to being accepted by the city than she realizes.
