The Bookworm Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts

The Bookworm Crush

by Lisa Brown Roberts

Amy McIntyre’s artistic dreams were crushed by a scathing art critic, but she’s determined to reboot her confidence this summer. She’s made a list of her flaws that need fixing, though she’s not quite sure how to tackle them. One thing she is sure of- she doesn’t need Toff Nichols declaring himself her wingman and taking over her list like a boss. Especially since he’s the reason for a secret to-do item on her list: BKoML (Best Kiss of My Life).

Toff Nichols plans to spend his summer surfing and partying, but when an injury sidelines him, he’s desperate to find something- or someone- to distract him until he can get back in the water. Enter Amy McIntyre, artist and book nerd. She needs him for her stupid list, even though she won’t admit it, because what kind of girl goes around listing her “flaws” when she’s flawless?

I was seeing a lot of good buzz for this book, and found my interest was piqued.

Things I enjoyed:
• A wonderfully bookish heroine
• Baked goods
• A fun contest with great challenges
• A cute opposites-attract romance
• Undying love of the romance genre
• Knitfiti

This book had a great premise, characters I liked, and an adorable romance. However, I found it so overloaded with fandom and pop culture references, which I struggled with, at times. I am glad I had picked the book back up, because once the romance picked up speed, the references seemed to taper, and I was able to enjoy watching Amy and Toff navigate their newfound interest in each other. It was cute and sweet and adorable, and I liked how much both Amy and Toff grew, and what a positive effect they had on each other.
