I’ve been curious about Black Badge since I first saw a cover for it. I loved the concept right from the beginning, and so far I’ve really enjoyed everything they’ve done with it. The first two issues felt more like one-shot stories, focusing more on establishing the world and the characters than any overarching plot, but this issue is where we first get to see the plot take the reins. It’s subtle at first, but it sure is there.
What I really like about the way they handled things is that while I don’t know each boy as well as I’d like (they’re not really the type to show their emotions, minus one), I do know their talents, skill sets, and tasks typically assigned to them. The still images showing everything they’re carrying just further cements that understanding.
They’ve been hinting for a while now that there had need another member of their team, that is now gone. We didn’t know much more than that…but this issue finally starts digging into that crazy backstory. It’s proving to be really interesting, to put it mildly.
