Cookie Swap!

by Lauren Chattman

On the one hand, it's all about the swap: when to swap (Christmas, of course, and other holidays, but also birthdays, bridal showers, graduation parties, PTA meetings, and fund-raisers-or just at your next book club meeting). And how to swap-with a planner, cookie swap math guide (so everyone gets the same number of cookies), ideas for invitations, decorations, containers, and then, when the crumbs have settled, how to make a keepsake. On the other hand, it's all about the cookies. Lauren Chattman is a former professional pastry chef and baking writer who's put together a knockout collection of more than 60 delectable, easy-to-make, simple-to-sophisticated recipes covering every kind of cookie-from crowd-pleasing favorites like Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies and Pumpkin Cheesecake Brownies to unexpected treats like Flaky Cardamom Palmiers and Green Tea Sandwich Cookies with Almond Cream. Finally, the book ends with a chapter of drink recipes-such as Iced Irish Coffee, Mini Strawberry Milk Shakes and Juicy Sangria-because not every cookie wants milk.

Cookie Swap! is a fun and well curated collection of cookie recipes by Lauren Chattman. Released 8th Oct 2024 by Hachette on their Workman Publishing imprint, it's 248 pages and is available in hardcover and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout.

This book really does have it all. There are cookies which are familiar and beloved of everyone - so it gets an A+ on completeness (a solid book). There are classics both easy and challenging for all occasions (mostly tending toward the easy end of the spectrum). The yields are generous and all of them are suitable/adaptable for gifting and sharing. The author has even included a primer for arranging a swap along with some "etiquette" suggestions. There are drop cookies, bars, shaped, and pretty much everything in between.

The photography is superb. This is a classic and comprehensive collection and will be a perennial go-to for both holiday and everyday uses. Five stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes
