Summary:

Jinwoo Sung has a reputation among the other hunters and dungeon adventurers – he's known as the Weakest Hunter of All Mankind. However, one job changed everything. It should have been a regular dungeon, but it quickly became life-or-death. Somehow Jinwoo survived – but he's forever changed. Now, he's working hard to level up and change the game.

The stakes have never been higher. Jeju Island is invested with giant ants, and if the hunters don't stop them, they will quickly overwhelm Korea (if not the world). Jinwoo is still undecided on whether he should sit this one out or not, though, given that he's finally gotten his family back together.

Review:

Whew! I can’t believe we’re almost at the end of the series (we are, right?). Solo Leveling Vol. 9 is a tense read, with one major element coming full circle. We still need answers (along with Jinwoo), but we’re getting closer.

I adore this plot coming full circle. It’s something I’d been wanting in the back of my mind but was almost afraid actually to ask for? So that was freaking fantastic. It didn’t go the way I expected, but it totally works.

They did an excellent job of showing how conflicted Jinwoo was, especially toward the end. The responsibility of balancing power with family and all that. I’ll be curious to see if they push this further in the next (final?) volume.

The worst part about finishing this volume is that I now have to wait (the horror!) for volume ten to release. That or binge it on Tapas. We’ll see how patient I am. Who’s putting money on the latter?
