Shadow Heir by Richelle Mead

Shadow Heir (Dark Swan, #4)

by Richelle Mead

New York Times bestselling author Richelle Mead returns to the Otherworld, a mystic land inextricably linked to our own - and balanced precariously on one woman's desperate courage...

Shaman-for-hire Eugenie Markham strives to keep the mortal realm safe from trespassing entities. But as the Thorn Land's prophecy-haunted queen, there's no refuge for her and her soon-to-be-born children when a mysterious blight begins to devastate the Otherworld...

The spell-driven source of the blight isn't the only challenge to Eugenie's instincts. Fairy king Dorian is sacrificing everything to help, but Eugenie can't trust the synergy drawing them back together. The uneasy truce between her and her shape shifter ex-lover Kiyo is endangered by secrets he can't - or won't - reveal. And as a formidable force rises to also threaten the human world, Eugenie must use her own cursed fate as a weapon - and risk the ultimate sacrifice...

***HAS SLIGHT SPOILERS***

I gave this book 3 stars solely based on the ending... I HATED it... completely HATED IT... I don't think I've ever hated an ending of a series as much as I did the ending of this book. I can't belive what Eugenie did, while her intentions are noble I think she is selfish.... completely selfish not to bring them to the Otherworld, and let them be with their father... and it ended not like an ending of a series would end it was like something is missing... but I can't believe they ended it with her leaving her children behind... man that pissed me right off there. Based on a possible threat, possible not plausible. I don't I must say that Ms. Meads direction in this book was not what I accepted and I must agree with the others that were dissapointed with this book, because I surely was.... and I wish I never read it but then it would have killed me not knowing what happened. UGH!

plus side though Volusian, Dorian, and Jasmin ROCKED THIS BOOK.
