Summary:
In the world of My Hero Academia, approximately eighty percent of the population (and growing) have been born with quirks – unique superpowers. Midoriya is part of the twenty percent group – born without a quirk. He never let that destroy his dreams of becoming a hero, and look at him now!
In a desperate attempt to protect his friends – and every civilian hunkering down at U.A.-Midoriya takes off on his own. It's not a plan that his classmates agree with, as they will always believe that they are stronger together.
Review:
This marks the end of my re-read! I'm so stoked to have gotten to My Hero Academia Vol. 33, not just because it means new stuff (for me) will soon follow, but because I'm happy with the end of this arc.
Yes, it's wildly emotional – as it should be. Midoriya is trying so hard to be the hero he has always wanted to be, but there's no denying the mask he's putting on isn't what he had dreamed of. Likewise, his classmates desperately want to be there.
Obviously, there's a lot more going on than just that, but I'm trying not to spoil it too much. I do love the mix of emotions that happened here. That said, am I the only one who thinks there are a half dozen mini-arcs here? Every time I thought I was on the last story arc of this plot, another one came around the corner (that I had totally forgotten about). Funny how that works.
This volume ends with a HUGE teaser (which you'll know about if you've seen the cover of the next volume). Honestly, I've been wanting to see heroes from other countries for a while now, so I'm incredibly excited to see what happens next.
