Summary:
In the world of My Hero Academia, approximately eighty percent of the population (and growing) have been born with quirks – unique superpowers. Midoriya is part of the twenty percent group – born without a quirk. He never let that destroy his dreams of becoming a hero, and look at him now!
The second round of the war is officially in full swing. The heroes got their wish – a chance to choose the time and location of their fight. But that doesn't mean the fight will be easy. Or that it will go exactly as planned.
Review:
Um. I think I need a minute. Maybe twenty. My Hero Academia Vol. 36 is A LOT. And I mean that in good and bad ways (but mostly good!). It's emotional, tense, and so very full of action. It's also fully showing off all the planning our heroes have done
I still love the plan (which I'm trying not to spoil because its surprise is half why I liked it so much), though I'm obviously concerned about all those involved. We know that Horikoshi isn't the type to pull punches...but he's also not afraid to play around with fake-outs and cliffhangers. So, who knows which characters will and won't survive this arc.
That said, I'm living for some of the character highlights happening here. Obviously, I'd rather not see any of these characters in danger...but it's the only way they'll get to shine, right? And shining they are.
As with a lot of the battle-based plots, My Hero Academia Vol. 36 ends on a cliffhanger. It's a pretty brutal one. It's simultaneously making me want to dive right into volume 37...and go hide under a blanket for a few days first. We'll see which impulse wins.
