This book had a different feel from the others thus far, due to the fact that the circus is on their annual hiatus. Therefore, the normal way of things was on hold, but that doesn’t mean that their down time will be monster-free. They unwittingly find themselves in the middle of a mystery, one with a bit of a slower pace and less actual action.
It was different, but I enjoyed seeing the characters in a different light, more relaxed. Readers learn more about their individual lives, see them in ways we don’t see when they are caught up in the business of the circus. There are also some references to other characters in other companion series, which I love. All in all, a fun read.
