AT THE BORDERLINE

With their magic contraptions in hand, Coco and her friends head to Ezrest for the annual festival, Silver Eve! The cobblestone streets of the crown city are lined with vibrant tents, and visitors from across the land partake in reunions and greetings anew. Here, witches, royals, the Knights Moralis, and even the Three Wise converge—each party carrying with them their private motivations and powerful histories. Summary:

Coco lives in a world where magic exists. Unfortunately, she's no magician. That's the one thing she's desperately wanted to be ever since she was a little girl. However, she has also been told that magicians are born, not made. Until one day, Coco sees something that changes her life. Now, she's a witch in training.

Coco and her fellow apprentices are in for a wild adventure as they head to Ezrest for its annual festival. It's something the girls have only ever dreamed of attending – but now it's real. Unfortunately, there's a dark underbelly beneath these festivities.

Review:

Oh wow! I swear, every volume I read of Witch Hat Atelier gets me even more invested than the last! And at this point, I'm already pretty invested! Witch Hat Atelier Vol. 9 hits hard – in all the right ways.

There are two, maybe three, primary plots in this volume. The first revolves around the festival (which may also be breaking into a new plot?). It seems sweet and cute at first, but it also raises lots (and lots) of questions.

The second is around Coco and her latest invention. It's one of those things we've been waiting for (thanks to the cliffhanger in the last volume), but it still hit hard. On the one hand, I can't wait to see this through. Conversely, I don't want to see Coco and her friends hurt.

There was also this interesting moment/lesson with the Knights Moralis. I wasn't expecting that! I'm sure this being revealed now was pointed out, and I am looking forward to seeing how it all connects.
