Summary:

Mutants have gone through hell and back over the years. They've had their wins. But for every win, they've had many more losses. Or so how it feels. Well, that time of loss and pain is over, as Charles Xavier has a new plan.

It's time to stop messing around with humanity. No amount of begging or pleading will save the mutants. They could save the world a hundred times over, and humanity would see mutantkind burn. So mutants will finally get their own home. A place to finally be safe.

Review:

I think I've read House of X/Powers of X before. At the very least, I was originally reading it when it came out in comic form (but I lost the thread at some point). So I'm taking the time to go back and read it all. Ironic, given the impending reboot. But whatever, it's worth it.

There's honestly so much to process in House of X/Powers of X. It's worth a second read (and maybe a third, or a fourth...). This is especially true as multiple plots weave together. The truth is, Krakoa took many stories, reiterations, and lives to make a reality. Again, it's a lot.

The thing I love the most about House of X/Powers of X isn't the world (though there's that), or the backstory and history, it's the hope. Yes, Krakoa is a symbol of mutants giving up on humanity and making their own stand. But it's also a story of hope? They're willing to try, again and again, to make a safe haven for them. And this time it feels like it might even stick (Again, I know it's ironic for this to say this now, with the reboot coming, sigh).

Also, let's not ignore how House of X/Powers of X throws everything mutant related on it's head. I love it. It's groundbreaking – sometimes literally. It's a major change that rippled throughout the entire Marvel universe. Even if you don't read any mutant-centric comics, the odds are good that if you're reading Marvel Comics, you've seen some of the secondary or tertiary effects of it.

I'm excited to be doing a (mostly?) complete run through this series. I've already got the next volume requested at my library. That said, any recommendations for what I should plan on reading in the future?

Major X-Men Reboot
Superheroes
