Dandadan, Vol. 2 (Dandadan, #2)

by Yukinobu Tatsu

A nerd must fight powerful spirits and aliens all vying for the secret power of his “family jewel,” so who better to fight alongside him than his high school crush and a spirit granny?!

Momo Ayase and Okarun are on opposite sides of the paranormal spectrum regarding what they’ll believe in and what they won’t. Their quest to prove each other wrong leads them down a path of secret crushes and paranormal battles they’ll have to participate in to believe!

Okarun, a high school boy obsessed with supernatural phenomena, is cursed by Turbo Granny! To break the curse, Okarun and his classmate Momo Ayase challenge Turbo Granny to a high-stakes race. But Turbo Granny’s assassin, a bound spirit in the form of a giant crab, has other plans!

Summary:

It all started as a little bet. Each wanted to prove the existence of the supernatural to their new friend, and neither was willing to listen. This quickly turns to chaos as a haunted tunnel and horny aliens get thrown into the mix.

Thanks to that adventure, Okarun is still cursed, and Momo Ayase seems to be the only one to keep the curse in check. So it looks like they will be hanging around for just a bit longer – at least until they find a solution, right?

Review:

I have to admit that I'm enjoying this series way more than I expected! Dandadan Vol. 2 is just as funny as the first volume, but with a few new twists and complications to throw into the mix (like they didn't have enough to deal with!).

The whole Turbo Granny plot is still hilarious and interesting. We can all see where the plot will eventually lead, but I'm not complaining about it. Though it will be nice to see this turn into a longer-running plot point.

Interestingly, they're already playing with the friends/more-than-friends subplot. I figured we'd have a couple more volumes before that started up. Granted, it's still pretty small and subtle still. Hopefully, that doesn't overrun the core arc, but I'll have to keep reading and find out!
