Freaky Witches is a crossover with the author’s Wicked Witches of the Midwest series.
The pace of this one feels much slower than most of the series, but I enjoyed seeing a sense of “normalcy” for the circus folk. But nothing is ever truly normal for the Mystic Circus, especially when their gig takes them to a small town and a huge witch festival. I haven’t read the other series yet, so the new characters were fun. Especially Aunt Tillie, whom I adored! The mystery was great, too, with lots of twists and turns.
Kade is really the one part of these stories that I just don’t love. He just can’t accept that Poet managed just fine without him, that she’s a strong, capable woman. She’s headstrong, and yes, stubborn, and those things seem to, at least in his own mind, give him the right to treat her like a child. There’s a lot of time spent with him telling her what she does wrong and demanding she fix it. There’s always quite a bit of that, of Kade telling Poet what to do.
