After coming out of alcohol rehabilitation, sixteen-year-old Amy sorts out conflicting emotions about her best friend Julia's death in a car accident for which she feels responsible.
This is the first book by Elizabeth Scott that I read, so I didn't have any expectations. I took me a few chapters to get use to the tone of the book. Amy's feelings of desolation, abandonment, guilt and palpable and painful to read. I don't understand how parents can be that sef-involved with each other and thier lived to not participate in Amy's life, to not realise the road to self-destruction she was heading to and the bad influence that Julia was in her live. Also, Amy's lack of self esteem and self awareness of her "faults" comes directly from the way she was raised (or not) by her absentee parents.
I was glad to see that Amy was willing to believe in herself and to open her heart to friendship, to love, and to give a chance to her parents. A poigant and beautiful book.
