Each book in this series is full of mystery with characters that are funny, snarky, imperfect, and quirky. Because of that, they are relatable characters, despite the paranormal aspects of the story. I love the snarky humor; it gives them a feeling of family more than just coworkers. But there are a lot of emotional moments in the book, too. In part, this is because of the ongoing issues between Poet and Kade, Poet and Max, and Kade and Max, but it is also because of the magical demands placed upon the caravan.
The only downside for me was Kade’s attitude. While some of it might be justified, it still felt excessive, to the point where he came off as a bit of a dramatic jackass. It felt largely misdirected, almost cruel and selfish at times. Fortunately, things came back around by the end of the book, enough to allow me to still enjoy it.
