Summary:

Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff, has been through so much. Yet, somehow, she keeps getting back up. Recently, Wanda relocated to a small town and opened a shop. Her shop is different from one that might expect.

Sure, it has magical tinctures and remedies galore. But it also has a magical door in the back. This door will bring anyone who needs the Scarlet Witch into the shop, ensuring they get the help they desperately need.

Review:

Wow. Scarlet Witch Vol. 1 is a roller coaster; I can tell you that much! A couple of distinct arcs occur within this volume besides the obvious setting up shop concept. It made for an action-packed and fascinating volume.

My initial reaction to the release of this new Scarlet Witch series: Ahhh! But seriously, Scarlet Witch is one of my favorite characters, so I was thrilled to see that the show got her series started again. I'm still thrilled with that news, truth be told.

The first plot/issue brings back an old favorite (hated?) antagonist, putting Wanda directly against his talents. I wasn't expecting to see him. Frankly, I wasn't expecting to see half the cameos that graced these pages, including Viv Vision (maybe I should have expected that one), Polaris, and Agatha. Okay... perhaps I should have expected all of them, but hindsight is 20/20.

Overall, I would say that this volume is an intense yet oddly satisfying read. There were epic fights, dramatic reveals, plenty of character development, and more. It's enough to keep most Marvel fans invested until the end. Oh, speaking of the end, there's a bit of a cliffhanger, so consider yourself warned!
