Summary:

Legends tell us of a fae swapping human babies with their own. For some, this is nothing more than a myth, but it is painfully true for those like Edmund and Childe. For this is the story of their lives.

Edmund is a changeling, living in secret with his human/adoptive parents. Meanwhile, the human he replaced, Childe, lives in a fae kingdom – one that never bothered to give him a name. Together, they must find a way to save the kingdom, or their futures will be lost.

Review:

Estranged is the perfect story for fans of fae and changelings. In truth, it's a perfect stepping stone for those who want to learn more about basic tropes and legends regarding fae. I'm not saying it's a simple story, but rather an approachable one.

There are many parts of Estranged that I love. That said, I think the best part (for me) had to be the sibling relationships portrayed in this book. They were so powerful and endearing that it was hard not to fall in love with that bit. Likewise, the artwork in Estranged is stunning. It's worth reading for that alone; the plot and characters were icing on the cake, in a way.

It's hard to write a good fae story that is approachable for a younger audience while still holding true to basic themes and concepts. So, I want to give Ethan M. Aldridge all the credit due for that. Well done!
