Snapdragon

by Kat Leyh

Snap’s town has a witch.

And when Snap’s dog goes missing, the first place she looks is the witch’s house. She finds her dog there, recovering from being hit by a car, in the care of a woman named Jacks. She is a crocks-wearing, internet-savvy older woman who's collects roadkill, put their spirits to rest, and cleans and sells their articulated skeletons online.

They make a deal: If Jacks teaches Snap how to take care of a crate of orphaned baby opossums that Snap rescued, Snap will assist Jacks with her work. But as Snap starts to gain an appreciation for what Jacks does and their friendship deepens . . . she realises that Jacks may in fact have real magic and that she also may have a connection with Snap's family’s past.

Summary:

Snap has heard loads about the town witch – and for the most part, she's listened to those warnings and stayed away. Until one day, something happened that forced her hand. There was no way Snap would let the witch steal her dog!

Upon meeting said witch, Snap quickly learns how rumors can warp and change a town's perspective on a person. So now she's helping the witch, named Jakc, with her...unique profession. Oh, and let's not forget about the magic. That part is real.

Review:

It's official: I love everything Kat Leyh writes. Snapdragon is so sweet and amazing; I couldn't get enough of it! No, seriously, is there going to be more?

The best part of Snapdragon has got to be the characters. Jack is my favorite, though there are several runner-ups (including Snap). The magic is a nice touch, as is delving into everyone's history.

If you're looking for a wholesome graphic novel (regardless of age), please consider checking out Snapdragon. It's perfect, endearing, and a lot of fun. Oh! And it's perfect for fans of The Lumberjanes, I promise!
