Book Summary:
Everyone in Flor's family has a gift. The question has always been whether or not they can recognize the gifts for what they are. For Flor, she can predict the exact day a person will pass away. Her sisters also have gifts, though no two gifts are the same. So do the children and likely the next generation.
My Review:
Family Lore is such a wonderfully written novel. And I mean that literally – the writing is lyrical and sometimes feels almost like prose. It was by far my favorite part of the entire novel. Okay, that, and I loved hearing about all the different gifts throughout the family.
This novel is told through dozens of perspectives, as it seems like each family member has thoughts and opinions on what is going on. In truth, I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with that fact. I love the concept, especially given the plot of Family Lore. However, the jumping around felt a little disjointed. It probably would have been better for the author to pick one time to work with. Having that many perspectives and time jumps made it a bit much (for me).
All things said and done, I found Family Lore to be an enjoyable reading experience. It's perfect for anyone looking for a multi-generational magical tale!
