Summary:

Makoto Kowata is a witch. Or rather, she's a witch in training. As such, she has packed up all her belongings (and cat) to live with distant relatives. It's a bit of a family tradition – a way of sending young witches out into the world - but in a gentler way.

Makoto's expected to continue her training here, finding her own path to living her life as a witch. And for the most part, she has. Well, in her own way. You see, Makoto is hesitant to lean into her family's magic.

Review:

In many ways, it feels like Flying Witch Vol. 2 is a slightly more casual and relaxing read than the first. Maybe it's because I was already familiar with the world and thus looking forward to Makoto's adventures. I'm not sure.

I have to admit, the combination of slice-of-life and witchy tales is pretty perfect here. Yes, it makes for a light read, but I don't think that's bad. That said, adding more humor (a la a character needing some magical assistance) was appreciated. It felt like the missing piece to the puzzle.

It looks like there are ten more volumes to this series (at the time of writing this review). That news makes me curious to see how Makoto's story will evolve. Is she going to figure out her magic more? And what about her sister? And her cousin? So many questions!

Slice-of-life
Witchy Tale
