This is a description of 24 hours in the life of a house, revealing all the little-known stirrings continually going on in our homes - many of which have an extraordinary effect on our daily lives. There are questions such as why doesn't teflon stick? How does a match light when you strike it? Why is ninety-two per cent of a TV screen actually blank when you watch a programme? The illustrations range from high powered scanning electron micrographs, to thermosgrams, computer enhanced X-rays, polarized light microscopy, and even airflow visualization techniques currently being developed for the aerospace industry.
